I recently visited Turtle Island for a few days of film shooting and found some great bird life on the lush and forested island (more than 500.000 trees have been planted here since the 1980s!) Turtle Island is located in the Nacula District of the Yasawa Islands, which includes seven villages. It is a beautiful part of Fiji and some of the islands here are frequently visited by tourists from all over the world. While there are definitely more bird species to be found on the shores and interiors of the islands in the island chain, here are a few I was able to photograph so far!
I love birding and as I travel a lot throughout Fiji for my photography and video work, I get some great opportunities to visit remote places and scout the local bird life. For a list of species, I have been able to photograph over the p[ast years, head over to my Manumanu Vuka Project post. Here on Turtle Island, I was especially happy to find a flock of male and female many-coloured fruit doves, a beautiful species that can be a bit tricky to photograph.
